Stories worth returning to.

Our Origin Story

A Broadsheet Born in a Basement

In the quiet hours of early 2018, two friends sat in a cramped basement apartment in Copenhagen, trying to figure out why the internet had made reading feel so disposable.

They printed fifty copies of a single broadsheet, hand-assembled, and left them in independent bookstores around the city. It was an experiment in "slow reading"—an antidote to the algorithmic feed. The response was unexpected: readers kept coming back, asking for more. They weren't just reading the stories; they were talking about them.

That small print run was the seed of Refly. Today, we remain rooted in that same philosophy: quality over quantity, depth over breadth, and a belief that the best journalism requires patience from both the writer and the reader. We are a publication, not a platform, and we exist to serve the reader, not the advertiser.

Our Compass

Editorial Principles

Independence

We are entirely reader-funded. No ads, no sponsorships, no dark patterns. Our editorial decisions are never swayed by commercial interests.

Accuracy

Fact-checking is non-negotiable. Every claim is verified, every source is cited, and we correct errors immediately and transparently.

Patience

We take the time to report, write, and edit. Our pieces are long-reads because they deserve to be, and we believe in the value of sustained attention.

Craft

We obsess over prose. Every sentence is weighed for impact. We are editors first, publishers second, committed to the highest standards of literary journalism.
